TeMo - Telerobotics over Mobile packet data services

TeMo is a tele-operated mobile internet robot. While other internet robots mostly use WiFi (or a nearby PC with an internet connection), TeMo connects to the internet using Mobile packed data services (e.g. GPRS / EDGE / UMTS / HSDPA). The advantage is virtually unlimited mobility for the robot.

Simply put, TeMo is a robot that can

  • Move around and do stuff (since it has tank tracks and a robotic arm)
  • Can be controlled from any where in the world (since it has Internet connectivity)
  • Can boldly go where no robot has gone before !! (since it used mobile packet services for Internet connectivity)

hi, i’m an engg. student in electronics and communication. the TeMo projecam project i t is simply awesome.i have a dream project in my mind, something similar to TeMo.so,can u help me out in making such a robot.
the functions of my “dream” robot are that it acts as a security guard where it keeps moving all the time upto a certain perimeter, where it senses a stranger on its way, distinguishing between a known face and a unknownface, and transmitting data via internet as well as sms to the phone.
mobility-as a spider bot.very quick.so, tracking moving objects cud be better. and climbing steps wud be faster.
such is my robot. so, pls help me.

    HI.
Very interesting project. You mention that you have done a lot of work on interfacing with mobile phones. I’d be very interested to know what you learned. Cheap robot brains are hard to find, but unused cell phones are not. However, I have found that most cell phones are not very hackable.

Did you have to buy any special cables or software to work with the phone? Most of the smart phones I have seen require both to access the advanced features with a computer.

    Pretty cool project.

I really liked the title of your wepage “Embisys” and the following punchline.
Is it a conglomeration of “Embedded Systems” or this word holds some special meaning, something i am unaware of ?
